Weekend Coffee Share – Double Decker Couch Edition

If we were having coffee, well, it would depend. If we were having coffee together, in person, there are thing I might tell you. The sort of stuff you tell in person, or on the phone. Because that’s the sort of stuff that’s been going on this week – serious stuff. Not to us, either, so it’s not really ours to share.

So in an effort to stay cheerful, well, I spent a little time wandering the store yesterday with the Geek Baby asleep…

So everyone could drink coffee together and be buddies!

So everyone could drink coffee together and be buddies!

So that happened.

We had been eyeing Legos for a bit. We’ve not really shared images of ourselves related to Comparative Geeks, and the idea was we could use Legos to do so. This would be ripping off the exact same idea from our blogging friend Sheena, at her blog Not A Punk Rocker. She uses Wyldstyle as her Avatar, and Deadpool as, well, Deadpool.

But that also meant no Wyldstyle for Holly… so then… wow, there are a lot of minifigs. Also, not nearly so many of them female. And so while we may not have hit on some final selections, we do at least have some we can play around with now. And better yet, new minifigs have multiple faces if you just spin them around! That will come into play for sure.

And so, here’s what we got!  Continue reading

Favorite Lego Game Series

With playing the Lego Movie game (and with reviewing it yesterday), we have been thinking back to the Lego games in general. Hard to pick a favorite game! So instead, we present you with a choice of a favorite series.

Do you like running around Hogwarts and going to classes? Want more to do with a lightsaber? Wishing there was someone with more powers than Super Skrull? Vote in our poll!

Catching Up on our Big List of Things

After we ended the A to Z Challenge in early May I did a post about how we had so many things to talk about, so many games to play, so many movies to see and shows to watch.

Now we’re in summer, and while the blockbusters have hit (especially a lot of the LitFlix), the shows have ended (even Game of Thrones!), and we have time to breathe. We also have some of the time-sinks in our personal lives past us. So where are we at? What are we up to?

I thought I would highlight some of our thoughts on topics moving forward, and some of the things we’ve crossed off that ambitious list of topics. Onward!

Catching Up – Video Games We’ve Been Playing Since We Got Our PS3

I feel like we’ve played a lot of video games lately – I think we moved into a video-game phase when we bought a new (for us) console, the PS3. And I don’t feel like we’ve written much about the games we’ve played lately, because we’ve almost moved too quickly through them. We’ve mentioned them in passing, as we’ve started them. Or as we finished.

And maybe that’s okay, as many of these games have been out a while. Maybe the point where talking about them is interesting has passed. However, I’m sure there are many games you, faithful reader, are also considering and haven’t played yet. So maybe we’ll spark a thought for you.

Lightning Returns CoverLightning Returns arrived today (finally!) and I have a feeling it is going to consume our time, and pull us away from other games. Which is too bad, but it also means I kind of want to get these games out of my system before we move completely on! So here’s a lightning round (pun intended?) of the games we’ve been playing lately, my quick thoughts and recommendations on them. Onward!

Marvel Owns My Time

I’ve been trying to keep it down to one Marvel-based post a week. I swear.

However, lately it seems like Marvel just keeps on giving. Or I keep finding something great. Avengers work by Jonathan Hickman. Hawkeye by Matt Fraction. New trailers, like the extended one for Captain America: The Winter Soldier before Thor: The Dark World. Lego Marvel Super Heroes.

The more of this that comes out, the more I remember that I used to be a big Marvel fan, and am being made one again. Disney’s plan of bringing in new fans by purchasing Marvel (and then Lucas Films…) seems to be a really good idea. Because they’ve snagged me again, anyway. Well played, Marvel. Continue reading
