Welcome to the Comparative Opinions podcast! This week hosts Holly and David dive into their re-watch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If you watch one movie a week this year, you can watch them all in time for Infinity War. With the first part watched, here are our thoughts looking back at these films!

Meanwhile, this is my LitFlix for the movie – my comparison of the movie and its source material in the comics. I read a handful of Avengers comics before and after the first appearance of Ultron in Avengers #55. I also read the titular Age of Ultron storyline. I know it’s not really the source material for the film, but between these two and some Avengers reading from a while back, I feel like I have a good foundation for comparison.
So let’s look at the Avengers in the film and the Avengers in the comics!
I referred to this question last month, but let’s explore it further… where the heck is Clint Barton, Hawkeye? In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he has completely disappeared since The Avengers, while all of the other Avengers and pretty much all of their supporting characters and villains have appeared since then.
We even have the slate of Marvel Phase 3 movies, and still no Hawkeye there, either. And he hasn’t been in Agents of SHIELD, though they have mentioned him. But if he’s one of the best SHIELD agents, and SHIELD has fallen… where the heck is he?
So I’ve been brainstorming some answers to this question, and would like to present them in meme form. So please follow along to join me in asking the question: Where the Heck is Barton?
That’s what Marvel had to say about the leak of their first trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron. It was supposed to air next week, during Agents of SHIELD.
I’m not sure I get that plan, either, since most people watching Agents of SHIELD are going to go see an Avengers movie. Let’s just safely make that assumption. In reverse, if your goal is to get people watching the show to see the trailer… wait, people still watch television live?
Anyway, once the proverbial cat was out of the bag, Marvel gave up their original plan, and released the HD version of the trailer online themselves. Blame Hydra, but in this case they seem to have done something good… we’ve got the trailer and a few of our thoughts after the jump!
Agents of SHIELD is back tomorrow for season 2! I kind of expected it tonight, but they seem to have moved the show to Tuesday nights! Which works for us, because we have a lot of shows on Monday nights at the moment… (UPDATE: Apparently it was always Tuesday nights! You lose track of these things watching shows on Hulu! Thanks, commenters, for keeping me accurate!)
This was a show that had a lot going on – mission of the week, a whole host of characters they were introducing us to, but through all of that they went really slowly. They had us asking, so what? They tried to give us a slice of life sort of show – while also giving us mysteries. But not the really big mysteries – those are reserved for the movies. So, the B-rank mysteries. And below – some were harder to care about than others!
And I expect all of that will be back, missions of the week, and the whole team. Like in the recent clip they released. But in the last handful of episodes last season, they got so good. Playing off of the big mystery reveal in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. So I want to speculate on some of the things they can do in this season, missions to have an characters to include. Onward for wild speculation for Agents of SHIELD: season 2!
