Doctor Who Series 8 Speculation – The Master

Long before Series 8 of Doctor Who started, there were rumors and speculation about the return of the Doctor’s old, eternal nemesis: the Master. Another Time Lord like the Doctor, the Master has been around on the show for decades, with all sorts of evil, sneaky, chaotic schemes.

The Master returned in recent years to be the one other Time Lord not trapped in the time-lock that holds in the Time War. That meant he was even more free to release his schemes on the universe – especially because the Doctor, the one person who could probably stop him, didn’t expect him.

He showed back up, was a connection to the Time Lords, who were manipulating him to return to the universe… and we now know the Time Lords could actually come back, so anything is possible! So even with the Master seemingly defeated and gone, I imagine that’s happened before in the past, and we should never consider him dead and gone. So the stage is set for the return of the Master – so what could happen with him? Thoughts and opinions to follow!

Why I’m Hopeful for Doctor Who: Series 8

Okay, that might seem like a bleak sort of title for a Doctor Who fan. What is there to be hopeful about? It’s going to be great. Of course it’s going to be great.

However, some of that may just be the end of Series 7 talking. The last episode – followed by the 50th Anniversary Special and the Christmas Special – I have come to call the “of the Doctor” trilogy: The Name of the Doctor, The Day of the Doctor, and The Time of the Doctor. And this trilogy was amazing.

The Name of the Doctor

But as a whole, Series 7 was less well received. So let’s consider that for a moment, and then, why I’m hopeful for Series 8!

What Can We Expect from the Doctor Who Christmas Special?

Well, I have previously done some brainstorming on what I thought might happen in series 7 of Doctor Who, and in the 50th Anniversary Special, and now that these episodes have come to pass, are we there? Have all of my questions been answered? I think not. So what is going to happen in the Christmas Special?

It’s still Moffat at the helm, and he knows how to play a long con. I think he is still planning on answering questions. The 50th Anniversary special tells us this.

But there are also a lot of items on the table, and I don’t know that we’re going to see all of these things. However, there are some known things happening – so what can we expect, given what is known? Onwards, to spoilers and speculation!

The Timeline of River Song

So, a project Holly and I would like to undergo is to explore River Song on Doctor Who in her subjective order, rather than in any sort of chronological, or episode-order, or Doctor-order sort of way. Having watched all of the New Who, this shouldn’t be a problem, right?

The problem with Time Travel is one that is defined by many. Douglas Adams sees it as one of grammar. However, for the Doctor and River Song, the problem of two Time Travelers, at least, is that you keep meeting in the wrong order.

So we plan on starting this marathon tonight, and I have been researching a recommended order, and thought I would talk about this just a bit. If you’re looking for a Timeline of River Song, I will have that linked below! Continue reading

Reaction: The Day of the Doctor

50th_poster_wallpaper_16x9

Yay!!! The day finally arrived, it is here. We have gotten to see the story that we have been waiting for since May. The simulcast of the event was such an incredible feat, but at the same time the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who – or any show for that matter – seems a worthy time to do it. Especially when that show is still going strong. So my quickie reaction is I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. It gives us a unique perspective on the life of the Doctor and on the one part of the Doctor’s life we have heard referenced, but not seen – and that is the Time War. It takes us into the mindset of the Doctor during the worst time of his life. There is a lot of timey-wimey going on, and a look at who the Doctor was compared to who he has become. It is an episode that you need to pay attention to because they pack it full of information.

If you did not get to see the episode then you are missing out and should stop reading now. There are going to be spoilers and then more spoilers, it is almost impossible to talk about this episode without spoilers. After the jump just remember as River Song, almost always, says, “Spoilers”. Continue reading
