Favorite Moments from AvX

Hope encountering the Phoenix Force So in a previous post I talked about how much I enjoyed AvX, but I tried so hard to not do any spoilers because I really enjoyed this cross over event. It spans across so many comics and does such a good job of really crossing over into the different stories.

This post is going to be very spoiler filled because there are some big events that happen, but it is nice that they don’t all happen in one single series. This cross over event is epic and world changing. The Phoenix is a force that cannot be controlled and that alone creates the base for a great and epic story. (Spoilers after the jump. You have been warned.) Continue reading

Avengers versus X-Men Comics, Non-Spoiler Look

Avengers vs X-Men #1Recently I read the run of the AvX comics, which I highly recommend. The entire event occurs over a multitude of different comic runs, but it is a pretty big story that involves the rise of the Phoenix. The whole story is pretty interesting and it is neat to see how a larger event can ripple out into separate storylines and affect them.

This story event happens after the House of M storyline, where Scarlet Witch reduced the mutant population from millions to hundreds. The Westchester school is still trying to train the mutants, and then the other group with Magneto and Cyclops is trying to figure out how to restore the mutant population. Then the power of the Phoenix begins to rise and the mutant Hope seems to be the intended vessel. The conflict arises due to the fact that the mutants want to use Hope to harness the power of the Phoenix, and the Avengers are worried because the Phoenix tends to be a force of destruction that cannot be harnessed. The TV Crossover Event

I kind of have a love / hate relationship with crossover events on TV shows. Some of how I feel about it can really depend on whether I watch all the shows that the crossover is occurring on. I understand why TV shows do it because they are try to pull in new watchers, but when it happens too much it can be a little frustrating. This leads to the following dilemma: do you just watch the episodes that are on the show that you watch regularly or do you also watch the couple of episodes on the show that you don’t watch regularly? At the same time it is often fun to think about how characters from one show would interact with ones from another show, but that is only if you watch all of the shows that the crossover is happening on. The whole thing is a bit of a conundrum and then there is the question of whether the story is one that actually fits with the overall show or if it feels forced in order to set up the crossover. Now it is not that these episodes are not good, but it can be overdone.

Flash versus Arrow TV Event

David and I recently got back from Australia and after spending 34 hours without any real sleep while flying back to the states I think my brain is still fried. Of course one of the things we do when we get back is to catch up on all the shows that we had not been watching; some of those being The Flash and Arrow. Only today did I find out about the wonderful two-night event that is occurring tonight and tomorrow, which is Flash versus Arrow. So because I am feeling brain dead and jet lagged and this looks awesome here is the trailer for this weeks The Flash and Arrow. I will include the extended trailer, which is also really good, after the jump.

UPDATE: Both of the videos we posted got marked “private” from the CW YouTube. Here is a trailer for this crossover on DC Entertainment. Also, these episodes have both now aired, so you can watch them!
