Agents of SHIELD – Back Tomorrow!

Agents of SHIELD is back tomorrow for season 2! I kind of expected it tonight, but they seem to have moved the show to Tuesday nights! Which works for us, because we have a lot of shows on Monday nights at the moment… (UPDATE: Apparently it was always Tuesday nights! You lose track of these things watching shows on Hulu! Thanks, commenters, for keeping me accurate!)

This was a show that had a lot going on – mission of the week, a whole host of characters they were introducing us to, but through all of that they went really slowly. They had us asking, so what? They tried to give us a slice of life sort of show – while also giving us mysteries. But not the really big mysteries – those are reserved for the movies. So, the B-rank mysteries. And below – some were harder to care about than others!

And I expect all of that will be back, missions of the week, and the whole team. Like in the recent clip they released. But in the last handful of episodes last season, they got so good. Playing off of the big mystery reveal in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. So I want to speculate on some of the things they can do in this season, missions to have an characters to include. Onward for wild speculation for Agents of SHIELD: season 2!

Movie Year in Review – 2014 So Far

I know it’s only halfway through the year, but as far as years go for movie releases, I think this year has been outstanding! To harken back, in my post talking about what I was excited for this year, most of it was movies. And, most of those movies were the first part of this year.

Therefore, I thought I would spend a bit of time to look at a few of the movies from the first part of this year, and look at just why they were so good. In thinking back on them, I’ve had some new thoughts, so I hope you’ll indulge me.

I think I especially want to talk about Mr. Peabody and Sherman, The Lego Movie, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and How to Train Your Dragon 2. Ones that I had said I was excited for, and which all lived up to or exceeded my expectations. I thought about Edge of Tomorrow, as well, but let me just say this real quick: it was a great action movie, and is one that is kind of hurting for money – so you going to see it would not be a bad thing!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier – A LitFlix

Okay, I’m over a month late on getting out a Captain America: The Winter Soldier LitFlix, and for that I am sorry. I can blame the A to Z Challenge and all the things we put off writing about in April, but that’s not it entirely. I think the problem is, there’s just too much to say about this film.

I was also left with a question: what was it about this movie that made me love it so much?

After seeing it another two times, I think the answer is quite simply that it is a good movie. It works internally with itself. It works as a sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger. And it works within the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, the characters and events fitting in with the larger happenings in other films. It did the things it needed to, and did them well.

My goal however is not to present you with a review – though I will provide you with a list of solid reviews to the film. My goal is to compare this film to the comics it is based on, in the full fashion of our LitFlix. So needless to say, all sorts of spoilers to follow! Continue reading

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Should Have Been a Mid-Season Show

I am still amazed at the new direction that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D has taken over the past couple of months. It is almost feeling like an entirely different show. I am excited about the show now and am really excited to see what happens with Agent Coulson and the crew. In some ways even if you are not too found of Skye, Fitz, and Simmons, they have introduced enough of a twist to not make it as important. This new direction of the show got me thinking that they really should have just planned to start the show in the mid-season. So much of the episodes in the Fall just seem unimportant with this recent shift that it really seems that the show was biding it’s time until they could do the shift. (Spoilers for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Captain America The Winter Soldier) Continue reading

A to Z Reaction and All The Things in April!

Last week we finished up the April A to Z blogging challenge, with 26 Character Studies! We hope you enjoyed them; we certainly had a good time writing them. Welcome to all our new followers from the challenge, and thank you to everyone who stopped by and were reading and commenting!

Of course, what this also means is we have a whole month of things that have been happening that we have left pretty much untouched. We did a post for International TableTop Day, but otherwise it was the challenge.

And then we went on a weekend trip to Seattle, to visit our friends and occasional guest bloggers @Odorunara and @Briantific. They each did a great guest post – Leah on Hannibal, which we now have to watch (sounds pretty good!), and Brian on ESO, in which he has gotten much further than we have and has taught us much of what we know about the game. Thank you again to them, and make sure you read their posts!

So we have a ton we want to talk about and want to catch up on and share with you and we didn’t really know where to start. So, here’s some thoughts on things that have been going on we want to talk about, or will be soon!
