Best and Worst Comics LitFlix 2014

We did this last year, and it was a lot of fun. What were the best and worst movie adaptations from existing source material? What we have to work from are our LitFlix, the movies we see after reading the source material. I’ll be writing about the comics adaptations of the year today, and Holly will cover the books tomorrow.

We’ve fallen behind some this fall, so the list of what we have to go from is smaller than the overall list of movie adaptations. I think the biggest deal is that we didn’t see Gone Girl, which people seems to have loved. Oh, and we haven’t seen Battle of the Five Armies yet, but expect that in the coming weeks…

Comics-wise, we are pretty good. And what a year for comics! Four big-name Marvel movies, some great independent comic adaptations, and a number of ones that may not be quite as good… which we may not have seen! So let me lay out my favorites both as a movie, and as an adaptation!

Amazing Spider-Man 2: A Review & A LitFlix

It’s been a long time coming now, I suppose, and for that I am sorry. However, it’s been hard to figure out how to talk about this movie, to figure out even what comics to read. And we did not see the movie until a few weeks after it was out, rather than rushing in – in part, because I was dragging my feet on reading the comics.

The comics I finally have read, to even tell you which ones, would be to spoil the movie. I was first looking at some of the origin comics for the villains: Electro, Green Goblin. The Sinister Six. However, these comics don’t give us the plot to the movie. In many ways, that seems like something they are building for themselves, in many ways. But then you have them harkening right back to the comics at times as well.

Very confusing. So this is part review, part comics-comparison as a LitFlix, for The Amazing Spider-Man 2! Spoilers to come, but first I will talk about the film and franchise a bit in a larger way before I get into the nittier-grittier bits!

Life, With Memes

Hello readers! Holly and I have a lot going on right now in our lives, both blogging and otherwise. We’ve hit a point where we need to do a lot of work on our house in a short amount of time. On top of that, it’s a heavy season for LitFlix – we have two of the movies coming out next weekend (which we’re still reading for!), and I still need to write up two from here in May. That was the plan for tonight, but that fell through.

I couldn’t focus enough this evening to write something like that, which involves thinking back both to the comics and the movie, but there was a bit of thought that I could do. Both Amazing Spider-Man 2 and X-Men: Days of Future Past have me thinking of some of the situations in terms of memes. So I took a little time this evening and made those memes – I hope you like!

For more from me on comics, be watching Sourcerer tomorrow – I have been contributing there, and tomorrow’s post is a comics reading list. But in the mean time, enjoy the memes!

A to Z Reaction and All The Things in April!

Last week we finished up the April A to Z blogging challenge, with 26 Character Studies! We hope you enjoyed them; we certainly had a good time writing them. Welcome to all our new followers from the challenge, and thank you to everyone who stopped by and were reading and commenting!

Of course, what this also means is we have a whole month of things that have been happening that we have left pretty much untouched. We did a post for International TableTop Day, but otherwise it was the challenge.

And then we went on a weekend trip to Seattle, to visit our friends and occasional guest bloggers @Odorunara and @Briantific. They each did a great guest post – Leah on Hannibal, which we now have to watch (sounds pretty good!), and Brian on ESO, in which he has gotten much further than we have and has taught us much of what we know about the game. Thank you again to them, and make sure you read their posts!

So we have a ton we want to talk about and want to catch up on and share with you and we didn’t really know where to start. So, here’s some thoughts on things that have been going on we want to talk about, or will be soon!

Comics LitFlix 2014

In 2013 we had fun doing LitFlix, reading the books or comics that had to go with the movies. I’m going to continue that on into this year, with whole new offerings to go from!

Marvel has 4 movies alone; another way to look at it is there are two from Frank Miller, and two from Chris Claremont. They’re dipping back to the classic writers.

The ones that are part of a larger comic universe are harder to plan for: they have to work off of the content from the movies, as well as any comic inspiration. So, I’ll be putting together what I can for those, reading inspirations, and seeing what I can do!

I’ve got trailers to follow for the ones that have trailers, and, like last year, I’m listing what I have found for reading these materials – so you can read along too for the movies!
