Four Years of Comparative Geeks!

It’s been four years! This is the holiday weekend that we got our original blog running over on WordPress in early 2013. We were coming off of a year when there seemed to be a lot to talk about, and we looked ahead and thought of plenty more.

For instance, 2012 had been a big year for the Geek movie – for good or ill, The Avengers changed everything. It was huge. It was so good. And with the most recent DC project having ended that year as well, with The Dark Knight Rises, that led to them moving towards the Marvel model. And the rest is… well, not history. More our present. Certainly something we’ve talked about a bunch since then!

It had been an impactful year for gaming, as well – Mass Effect 3 hit and was one of the biggest initial disappointments in gaming. It’s reached a point of being a mixed reaction, but certainly one thing we couldn’t predict then was a Mass Effect 4, but that’s coming in a few months! What we could predict was Dragon Age 3, which we’ve talked about a fair bit (and probably will again!). David was also finishing up Deus Ex and Dishonored, and in general it was just a good time for the last generation of consoles.

More broadly in the world of gaming, things like TableTop and the Geek & Sundry network in general inspired us and got us going. We were around in time for the first International TableTop Day, and we’ve done something for the day ever since. Since then, our town has ended up with a board gaming convention, so it’s only better and better!

We weren’t the only ones to get going with a blog around that time, and in the years to come. Most of the fun of all of this has been getting to this point with others. Holly and David made it through the first year largely because of each other, but by the end of the year, they were networked in with a bunch of other bloggers. 2014 was a year of growing these relationships, and 2015 was a year when they all joined together and kept the site going while the Geek Baby was born! The only place to go was up, and so 2016 led to this site now, and a more active ongoing role from more contributors!

Looking ahead at 2017, what do you want to see? How about a poll! Let us know! Other ideas? Let us know in the comments below!

And thank you. Whether you’ve been with us since early on, or joined us recently, it’s great to have you along for the ride!
