What’s Streaming, December 2016

December seems like it will be both a big month for movies and also not. There’s a lot of content coming, but there’s a lot of content leaving streaming for the end of the year as well, especially over at HBO. Amazon will be adding quite a few older westerns to their lineup, as well as adding some original content. Netflix gets to see one of the first examples of its new agreement with Disney by releasing one of Marvel’s newest releases.

National Lampoon’s Animal House (1978)

If you haven’t seen this classic college comedy, this December is your chance! A hilarious and quotable favorite, this film follows a misbehaving frat and their shenanigans as they try to keep administration from shutting them down.

Chill with Bob Ross: Collection (1990)

Have you already gone through the entire Bob Ross collection currently on Netflix? Good news because more is on the way! If you don’t remember this PBS show from the 80s and 90s, give it a try, especially on any of your most stressful days. Bob Ross’ quick painting techniques, soothing voice, and life lessons, (“We don’t make mistakes, we just have happy little accidents”) will immediately make you feel more at ease.

Fuller House (Season 2), December 9th

The second season of Netflix’s Original Series Fuller House will be coming this month, further continuing the story picked up last year from the 90s hit show Full House.

Lucky Number Slevin, December 11th

A case of mistaken identity is the story line to this quotable, almost cult comedy starring Josh Hartnett.

Capt. America Civil War, December 25th

Just in time for Christmas, Disney is finally making good on its deal with Netflix to release their newest films on streaming, so if you missed Civil War in theatres earlier this year or want to watch it again, now is the perfect time. Happy Christmas Marvel fans everywhere!

Notables leaving Netflix:

American Beauty

Top Gun

The Da Vinci Code, Dec. 14th

Spy Kids (2001), Dec. 27th

Hercules: The Legendary Journeys: Seasons 1-6, Dec. 31

Another classic comedy from the 80s, this oft-quoted and well-loved film stars Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, and Rodney Dangerfield. If you’ve never seen it before, now is a good chance to do so!

Man in the High Castle Season 2, December 16th

I only just started season 1 of this critically-acclaimed show earlier this week, but season 2 is finally coming on December 16th. Loosely based on Phillip K. Dick’s novel of the same name, it follows an alternate history speculating what would have happened if the U.S. had lost World War 2.

Westworld Season 1 Finale, December 4th

Just a head’s up for everyone who has become enthralled by HBO’s latest hit show, Westworld’s season 1 finale will be on December 4th.

Keanu, December 3rd

From comedic, creative duo Key & Peele, Keanu follows two friends as they try to rescue a kitten one of them found and then lost in a kidnapping. Hilarious and full of fun, this movie is perfect if you need a night to just relax and have some laughs (which I’m sure we’ve all needed recently).

Hail! Caesar, December 24th

I wrote a review when this first came out, and I must say this Coen brothers’ film perfectly captures the feel of 1950s Big Studio Hollywood. If you’re a fan of the Coens or love the time of classic Hollywood, give this one a try when it is released in late December.

Notables leaving HBO:

The Bourne Ultimatum

The Fantastic Four, 2015

High Fidelity

Jupiter Ascending

National Treasure

Say Anything…

Scent of a Woman

Snakes on a Plane
