So something David and I will sometimes discuss is what movie do we want to be Geek Baby’s first movie? There are so many things that we want to share with her and movies are part of that list. So much of it though really needs to wait until she is older and while she is not old enough yet she is getting closer. So the question remains what to show as her first movie because there are quite a few to choose from. I am a huge fan of Disney movies, which is a pretty good place to start. Then there are also some Miyazaki movies that are pretty acceptable for a first movie. So here are some things we are considering when looking at Geek Baby’s first movie.
Length
It might be funny to think about, but length is huge because if it is too long she won’t actually watch it. Now there is the possibility that we can have her watch just a little bit at a time, but it would be great to have her be able to see the whole story. I mean really this is why most kids movies are between 60 and 90 minutes in general. Shorter is definitely better, but is not the only consideration when looking at first choice for a movie.
Content
Now the obvious other piece is content of the movie. Are there any scary bits? Are there any serious sections that could be too much? Is the overall story something she might be able to follow? It is an interesting thing to have to think about. In some ways you want something that has a story, but also has something that the child can connect with in some way.
Characters
Now characters can be huge because if she sees a character and lights up that is kind of what we are looking for. You want her to see and recognize the characters. Those characters should be something she wants to see and interact with. I mean I know it can get annoying if they get obsessed, but there is also something sweet about seeing a kid get excited about characters.
What to Go With
Now there are all sorts of shorts we could have her watch, but this is about finding a movie and something that she and we could be enjoying for years to come. We are still trying to figure it out. Here are some of our choices, what do you think is a good first movie for Geek Baby?
Comparative Geeks 
I was going to vote, but then I couldn’t decide between Totoro and Winnie the Pooh. 😀 Totoro is my favorite now, but as a very small child I adored Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, etc. Maybe my first fandom? Haha

I almost voted for Nemo because of the soothing colors and imagery, but there are a few jarring moments. Pooh is probably the overal winner for me, but I still love that movie now 🙂
