Comics LitFlix 2015

This is a really skimpy year for comic book movie adaptations. Unlike the next several years – with so many movies just from Marvel and DC, plus some from Fox and then who knows how many independent comics will make their way to the screen!

This year though? I know of four. Yep, four. And the comics movies tend to stake their claim on a date early: just look at those Marvel and DC links above! I don’t think we’ll be adding much to it. So I may read a book or two to supplement! I’ve already read the short story that inspired Predestination, after all! We may even end up renting a couple of these as well instead of seeing them in theaters. So what am I reading? Read on for the (short) list!

February 13 – Kingsman: The Secret Service

The Secret Service: Kingsman by Mark Millar, Dave Gibbons, and Matthew Vaughn (Paperback, 160 pages)

I am torn on reading this one – I ended up upset with the comics for Kick-Ass 2 but enjoyed the movie, and this is the same creator team. But hey, it’s one of the four. We’ll certainly be seeing the film, and in theaters.

May 1 – Avengers: Age of Ultron

Age of Ultron by Brian Michael Bendis (Marvel Unlimited App)

Better be in theaters… In Joss we trust!

July 17 – Ant-Man

So I want to read stuff about Scott Lang as Ant-Man, a character first appearing in 1979. So I’ll either read some of that early stuff, or else read the Matt Fraction run of FF, which included Scott Lang as Ant-Man and always looked pretty fun. Plus that would go with the next title…

Oh, and we’re probably renting this one (the first Marvel Cinematic Movie I won’t have seen in theaters if so!).

August 7 – Fantastic Four

I’m not sure whether it’s more likely that Ant-Man gets delayed, or this movie. No trailer yet, no poster, and it’s been really quiet about production for a while. However, the IMDb description for the movie sounds fascinating and different so I’m intrigued. So I’m using this as an excuse to read Jonathan Hickman’s run on Fantastic Four and FF

Fantastic Four 570-588, 600-611 and FF 1-23 by Jonathan Hickman (Marvel Unlimited App)

Probably rent this one if it comes out this date…
