The Interesting Marketing of Sunset Overdrive

One of the first games to really be a big name exclusive to a single new console is Sunset Overdrive. This game looks ridiculous, it reminds us a little of Borderlands, and we’re intrigued. Not enough to get an X-Box One to play it, but if we end up with one, we’ll probably end up with this game, too.

However, what’s been interesting for us this week was seeing one way they’ve marketed this game: by paying YouTubers to figure out a way to drum up hype.

So the folks over at SourceFed Nerd went and caused some mayhem and explosions, with Microsoft footing the bill. That sounds fun, right? Videos below!

Update: here’s the fourth video, they released it on the game release day!

That might not be all the videos that they have made, but it’s all that’s out now… what do you think? Interested in the game? The marketing strategy? Happy to see some support going YouTube Channelers’ way? Let us know in the comments below!

  1. This is really the only game on the Xbox one that makes me want one. Since I already have both the PS4 and the Wii U though, it’s just not enough.

    • How do you like the PS4? We’re still on the fence when it comes to the new consoles. Wii U is kind of looking tempting now…

      • Of the two, I’d recommend the Wii U since it has the most unique games and is cheaper to buy. The PS4 is a really nice system though. Everything about it works so much faster than the PS3 and the controller is a huge improvement. On the downside, there aren’t too many good PS4 games yet that aren’t either on the PS3, Xbox 360 or the PC. Heck, all the games I have for it are also on the PS3, whereas most of the Wii U games I have are exclusives. not to mention that Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze might just be the best Donkey Kong game ever made, and that’s coming from someone who grew up on the DKC trilogy.

Some of the games we thought would force a decision for us, like especially Dragon Age: Inquisition, are ending up on our X-Box 360, so we haven’t had to make a choice yet. Still waiting on that!
