My Favorite Moments from Disneyland

So for this recent trip we ended up going to Disneyland for two days. Well actually we went to California Adventure one day and Disneyland the second day. I love Disneyland. I grew up watching Mickey Mouse and going to Disneyland. The cost is pretty ridiculous now a days, which is so sad. It is such a fun place to go, but the price just keeps going up. At the same time I still love it. Some of it is the nostalgia and the other part is the innovation. There are rides that have not changed much in twenty years and then there are new rides that come up with whole new ideas. So following are some of my favorite things from this most recent Disneyland trip.

Toy Story Mania

This is one of my favorite rides in California Adventure. The very idea of doing a ride that is also a type of fair or arcade game is so much fun. It is also great because it keeps track of your scores so not only are you competing with whoever else has ridden that day you are competing with the people in your car. This is good or bad depending on how competitive you are. All the games are basically the same, but the visuals and concepts are different enough that it keeps you interested. The biggest problem is that the line for the ride is ridiculously long, even when the park is not as crowded.

World of Color

So I had heard about this show that happens in California Adventure and originally was not that interested. It sounded like a light and water show to music, which really did not sound that interesting. Then we got free reserved tickets to get some really nice spots to watch the show and it changed my mind. They reflected video onto the water and it was partly colored lights and water, but the music and the projected video tied together so well. Now we did see the holiday version of World of Color, but it made me want to see the normal version. It took you on an emotional ride and it is just water.

Indiana Jones

I remember when this ride first opened and the line would go all the way to the Tiki Room. It is still such a fun experience and having three different options for the ride means it can be a little different every time you go. The most interesting thing about this time is that it used to be when the eyes opened it just made them light up. Now they have video projection opening the eyes and having them turn black because your looking. Then it is a bumpy, speedy ride through the temple, which is referential of the Indiana Jones movies. This ride has held up, but it is neat to see the little updates they are doing.

Space Mountain

I love Space Mountain, but David loves it even more. We knew that we had to ride Space Mountain before we left for the day. Now for this ride we made sure to grab a fast pass because the line is always long. This is such a thrilling ride through the dark. You have no idea where you are going and you are making sudden turns and drops. It is such an exhilarating ride and it has just gotten better over time. I am always excited after I get off that ride. It took me a long time before I would ride Space Mountain and now I am so glad that I did.

Nightmare Before Christmas

Now this ride is the reason to go to Disneyland during the holidays. I love Nightmare Before Christmas so to have them dress up the Haunted Mansion as Nightmare Before Christmas is so exciting. From the inside out the entire Mansion and grounds get decorated for the occasion. It starts in October for Halloween and goes through December for Christmas. It is such a perfect time to be able to do it and the theme is just so perfect. You start out outside where the house is covered in snow, pumpkins, presents, etc. Then on the inside you see all your favorite characters from the movie. There are so many things to see and look at that you can ride it multiple times and see something new each time.

There are so many great rides, and it was so crowded I did not get to experience them all. One of the things that makes me sad is that when it is really crowded the Fantasyland rides get way too crowded. I will always love Alice in Wonderland, Mister Toad’s Wild Ride, Peter Pan, etc, but they have a special place in my heart for them. I always have such a great time, even when it is crowded.
