So this is partly due to the fact that I am tired and do not have the brain power to be contemplative. It is also due to the fact that I discovered Lauren Cooper a few years ago and will re-watch many if not all of the sketches over and over again. For those of you who don’t know Lauren Cooper is a character brought to you by the fabulous Catharine Tate.
The original sketches are from Tate’s comedy show, but the character has appeared in other specials as well. Catharine plays the character brilliantly and it is absolutely hilarious to watch. Now I have not watched all of the Lauren Cooper sketches, but here are my favorite so far. (Am I bovvered?!)
This sketch is actual from the show. Part of what is great is a lot of them happen on the school grounds and this is a moment where at the end Lauren ends up a little deflated. Also the arguing that you are not wearing something when someone sees you wearing it is kind of fantastic.
The next two of my favorites are sketches from the Red Nose Day event. It is a charity telethon event for Comic Relief, an organization founded to help “bring about positive and lasting change in the lives of poor and disadvantaged people, which we believe requires investing in work that addresses people’s immediate needs as well as tackling the root causes of poverty and injustice”.
Lauren Cooper. Intern. Tony Blair. Enough said.
Okay, so some of the appeal of this sketch is David Tenant. Listening to his scottish accent is divine. The Doctor Who reference is just a fabulous perk. Also, Catharine Tate switching from am I bothered to Shakespeare is so impressive.
This is from the Royal Variety Performance that is in front of the Queen. It is actually based on one of the early sketches they did on the show. So them doing the sketch about the Queen in front of the Queen, that takes guts. I love the moment when she says “She ain’t even bothered”.
There are so many more from the show and I love watching all of them. The one-shots just seem to give a little extra punch. I have watched all of these I do not know how many times at this point. I recommend watching all that you can find. This actual inspired David to get me the Catharine Tate Show on DVD, proving again what an amazing actress and comedian she is. She plays so many characters and they are all hilarious.
